Taking showers at Navy boot camp probably among my worst experience while in the service This may sound odd, but of all my years in the Navy (just 4), taking showers at boot camp probably among the worst of my memories? Why? Cause at the time, although boot camp was in Florida (that facility now closed, down near Orlando area), but it was still winter time, and Florida can have some chill days in the winter. And the Navy boot camp showers were like public pool showers, basically outside or un roofed, in other words, if remember right, could look up and see the sky, at least the showers at the pool area, in the barracks they were indoors. To me there was nothing worse than being cold, nervious and wet, I hated it, totally hated it, and on top of that having company commander barking at you the whole time, well me and other cold wet miserable shipmates. And speaking of being naked and nude in the showers around others of your same gender, well I must admit eyeballs did and do drift. White's looking at the blacks, and the blacks looking at the whites and the Hispanics looking at all to see if 'myth' was true. If gay, than group shower times in bootcamp probably would of been like Heaven....naked thin bodies everywhere and average bootcamp age is like from 18-24, so everyone is young and still kind of girly looking. Anyways, all that aside, I hated shower time in bootcamp, especially at the pool, where everyone had to 'float' for 5 minutes or could not pass boot camp. That was the longest 5 minutes of my life, looking back, until I learned the proper techniqe of how to tread water. Much more to follow as time allows.
