My Crew, the best friends I had during Pullman years
The following are the best friends I had while in Pullman area, and in no particular order, as friends would come and go, move in and away with parents, and when they left could be so devastating, but another would usually fill the void, but there's no worse feeling than losing a best friend from K-12, particularly from like middle school up when start becoming more socially conscious and aware.
Going to name drop here, but for memory sake, then will come back and go over each friend and the impact they had on my life, and you'll see their names scattered throughout this blog forum as I recount other stories of the past.
1. Mike M (Sunnyside hill area)
They were my first out of family best friend I think I ever had, big strong moe hoe, but we grew apart after elementary school, actually during elementary school, like in the 3rd grade, his parents didn't want him hanging around 'stupid people' anymore...but before that I spent the night at his house many a time, and vice versa, we did have our good times together before the ugly world seperated us.
2. Mike M, the tall one, who's Mother was the recess guard at Jefferson elementary, who I accidently hit in the face with a frisbee.
Mike M, the tall one, was one of the few classmates taller than I was, odd fella they were, into the outdoors and paranormal stuff, we were tight for many years, but our friendship was a on and off one, and we even were friends well after high school for a while, they were married to Pam something, nice lady from Idaho, I'll give her her dues later, such a nice gal she was..Everett, WA and all.
3. Mike J, (black and from Chicago and had wild hair)
Yes, Mike J moved to Pullman like during middle school years and was actually the nephew of friends of my parents, this guy was build solid, and intimidated many of the local guys who weren't use to seeing such a muscular tough black guy from the inner city, but Mike was 'Pullman' at heart in that they loved both Rap and Rock-n-roll music, and always carried electric guitar around, he totally confused the local 'white rockers', who just didn't know what to do with him, so he joined out outcast crew. More on them later
4. Mike B, he or they were my first Albion, WA friend, my Dad use to call him 'Hounches' cause I guess they had a fat or chunky butt?...who knows.
Also they were Philipinoe, or however spelled, Philipinoe, tough and handsome, and the girls thought he was cute.
He was 100% American, raised and bred...we first met when I was in the 4th grade.
They were the first one to shelter me from bullies when I boarded school bus for first time in Albion WA as the other kids were calling me names, which at that age don't even know what those names mean or meant.
We were really tight for many years, until sadly they moved away, that sucked, they were like a older brother to me, but kind of had that Eddie Haskel demeanor around my parents, good around my parents, a devil when alone with me....more on them later.
I think I've gotten all the Mikes out the way.
5. Ricky S, another great Albion best friend, but they were a grade beneath me, we became tight as hell for many years, many sleep overs, their father was a campus cop, and his sister was gorgious to me, always...guess can admit that now (as if they didn't already know).
To much about Ricky S to write about now, much more on this blonde haired wonder and former best friend later.
6. Dan K, Albino looking moe hoe, but we became best friends for a few years in High school, important years actually, they really helped fill a void for me when many of my other friends had moved.
We were such a unlikely duo, but it worked, mainly cause we were both considered outcasts, and looked at each other as outcast even to ourselves, yet we came together for a few years and spawned some of the most fun times I ever had during my high school years, they had older hippie type brother, who had equally crazy, funny, African hippie friend from Africa.
7. Wes C, another Albion friend who's mother moved him and his sister and 3 dogs and a horse from Illinois area or Chicago, I think he arrived the summer between middle school and high school, and looking back, not really sure how we first met.
Their sister was hot, Dawn C, a gal to dream for back then, tall, lanky Bonnie and Clyde type of gal....Wes was hyper smart, but hung with us dumb types, but Wes was near genus and didn't have to study for math classes, they could of been a Harvard type if pushed that way....but in reality they had long hair, loved Atari video games, had large Uncle who lived in Pullman in that odd Hectogon house on road to Colfax on a cliff or something by sunny side park with the two ponds.
Me and Wes had many great years together during high school years, and to this day I still miss them, they were so flexible and fun to hang around, me, Wes C, and Dan K often formed trio of company on Friday nights creating mischief around town, and on campus.
8. Steve L, a life saver to me, we were like brother tight, they were mixed, and adopted, and also from Chicago area, so often me, Wes C, and Steve L, also formed hang out trio and had lots of fun, and later you could add Carlos F to that group, although Carlos was grade below, but considered 'cool' above and beyond his grade level, Carlos F was always a cool Brazilian dude, and I have just the character for him when I get to his profile.
But Steves parents were very well to do, especially for Pullman, I think his dad was the Dean, or one of them, and reminded me of the Dad on '8 is enough' TV show.
Steve also had to older twin adopted 'B' brothers as well, and I spent a few months with on at Job corps in Sedro Wooley WA, more on them later.
Steve was my twin, and my heart and soul, and when they moved away, got sent to some reform facility, I was devistated, crushed, cause at the time they were like the only other minority friend I had, while in high school, but I think that's when Wes C, and Dan K, kind of filled that void....more on Steve L later.
9. (Can't remember this guys name, they came late), Nathon?, they lived on farm, on way to Lewiston, just outside of pullman. They were tall curly haired blonde 'W' guy, when I left Pullman I left my beloved German shepard with them.
They were cool as hell, and our friendship never got to fully take off cause I skipped town after graduating, but they were there for me, and I think 1 grade below, but we just 'felt' each other, had some really fun nights together hanging out at the 'Cub' (WSU), the cub is where all the video games were and pool room and bowling alley and rec stuff, but was meant for the college students, but us high school types hung out there as well, back then it just didn't matter, life was different, no need for security or passes or ID, if you weren't a college student they just knew your parents more than likely were Professors or on the staff there...such a unique dynamic Pullman was...
10. Rob something, a super cool 'W' dude from Cali?, he came late, like beginning of senior year or middle of Jr year, my outcast crowd embraced him early on, and is why he never forgot that even though he was quickly elevated to the 'cool crowd', who did not like us at all, amazing how cruel people can be in high school year, probably worse now, but ye Rob, the guy with curly black hair and cool as hell, like a white dude acting black...back then, in that area, if white, and acted cool, you were kind of 'black'...I know, seems weird by todays standards and themes...I miss Rob, cause even when he became aware that my group wasn't the cool group, this guy still said hello and would chat with us and even hang out after school, they were super real and loyal.
11. Kevin G, oh how could I forget them, we bonded very tightly during middle school years, Oh how could I forget them, this guy later moved to the Seattle area and came back to visit as a GQ looking model, back when guys put moose in their hair, but in Pullman they hung out with me, and boy did we laugh and laugh and laugh some more, he moved away during the summer of 8th grade.
Way more on my time with them later, they were so badly needed in my life during those middle school years, for without them I would of really been socially lost.
They indeed had a special soul.
All names mentioned did, and all came around for me, and or me for them when needed, funny how fate can take care of us like that at times.
Am I forgetting some names?, probably, but believe me you, one way or another, if in my life back then will remember you in future post.
Special mention..Travis A, a Albion aquatance, him and Mike B would fight yearly as Mac the fat cop looked on while eating donuts.
Travis had Native American in him and had cute sister who struggled with cancer, chemo and all that, but she never slowed down, always had a smile, and hope she's fine and won that battle.
They moved to Colfax.
Tie H...not really best friends, more like competitors, think of country boy mixed with groucho marx, oh can't wait to get to his profile on here.
Mike P, of course, more on them later as well.
And that's all for now, when writing about this stuff, it's as if it all just occurred yesterday...back soon.
